Eelco ‘Virus’ van den Berg is a multidisciplinary street artist hailing from The Netherlands. Having attainted worldwide popularity, he has been enlisted to portray his beautiful art in Brooklyn time and time again. His distinctive style draws inspiration from ‘the hip hop virus’ as he calls it, which refers primarily to the emergence of graffiti. Berlin cat

When I was in Berlin for the ‘Stroke art fair 2013’ I painted this cat in the early morning before going to the fair. It was at the abandoned ice factory.

This building belongs to the oldest ice-factories in Germany and has been producing artificial ice for more than 100 years. A company called Norddeutschen Eiswerke started using the building in 1893 and after having survived two world-wars the building is now abandoned since 1995. Right now the ice-factory is one of the most interesting abandoned places in Berlin. The homeless and gypsies living there loved the cat!

Stroke artfair 2013

Within the last four years at Stroke, almost 100,000 visitors came to see artists and galleries from all over the world. Urban Art is now! In fact the huge variety of subcultural dynamics of the last 30 years in this melting pot is self-replicating. Terms such as “Low Brow”, “Illustration”, “Street Art”, “Graffiti”, “Graphic Design” or “Comic Art” are fused with classic notions of art as well as unconventional resources and are newly interpreted in a fresh, innovative and mostly postmodern context. This is art for the 21st century. The fair was open from June the 3rd till the 6th at the  Alte Münze in Berlin.
