New relics
BLAAK10 Gallery & Store presents NEW RELICS. From Friday March 4 2011 onwards, BLAAK10 Gallery & Store presents work by former Illustration students of Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam University. Tim Boin and Basto Elbers of Sober Industries, Eelco van den Berg and Silas show work that forms an impressive and colourful collection. According to this group, illustration is not only about drawings, but also covers paintings, graphic design and objects in the open air. Tim Boin and Basto Elbers formed their multidisciplinary collective Sober Industries in 2009. In their work, they look for original and creative ways to react to the world around them. Eelco van den Berg, a.k.a. the ‘Virus’, has been occupied withillustration since elementary school. He’s inspired by graffiti and hiphop and his work can be recognised by its bright colours and clear lines. Another artist who has been drawing from a very young age is Silas. His work consists of melancholic figures and animals, which he gives a dreamy touch by using paint, pencils and diverse media. This exhibition is part of Rotterdam Museum Night, which takes place on Saturday march 5 2011.
